Difference between XML and HTML

XML and HTML are two different types of markup languages.While XML allows creation of new markup languages, HTML is a predefined markup languages. XML and HTML can be thought of two different markup language but complementary to one another.
For Example, You may use XML to structure and describe data and HTML to format and display the data.

HTML is an abbreviation for Hyper Text Markup Language.XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language.
HTML document formats and display
web pages data.
XML documents carry data along with their description.
HTML is markup language itself.XML provides a framework for defining markup languages.
HTML is a presentation language.XML is neither a programming language nor a presentation language.
HTML tags are predefined.(predefined markup language)XML tags are not predefined. you can create and define new tags as per your needs.(meta language)
HTML tags may not have closing tag.XML tags must have a closing tag.
HTML tags are not case-sensitive.XML tags are case-sensitive.
HTML document are directly view-able in a browser.
XML documents can be viewed only if proper stylesheet file is also available along with XML file.
